
Carlisle City look like being grounded again in the Northern League with tomorrow’s game very much in doubt.
City are due to play at Thornaby but prospects are grim with today’s update suggesting that it had a 1% chance of being on.
City manager Dan Kirkup said: “We are full tilt for the game after our mid-week cup win but I’m told it’s 99% certain to be off.
“I’ve never known anything like it.
“We have played one Saturday game since December 20 and just can’t get any momentum going.”
Penrith have a home game against Crook Town and manager Jim Nichols has only one injury issue – defender Alex Potts will miss out with a hamstring injury.
Crook are nine points and three places behind Penrith in 16th but they do have three games in hand.
Penrith have the incentive of knowing they could jump two places in the table with Carlisle City not playing and if Kendal Town win at Newcastle Blue Star.
Kendal still have James Bailey suspended for the trip to the north east while Jason Walker is recovering from knee injury.
There’s better news on Noah Sawkins after a scan revealed no serious injury and he is back in training but not ready to play.
In the North West Counties League, Holker Old Boys are itching to get back in action after Tuesday’s home game with AFC Blackpool was called off.
It’s a tricky away game at Magull who are three points ahead of them on the edge of the play-offs but Holker do have a game in hand.
Whitehaven received a big boost last week with a 7-0 President’s Cup win against Second Division Hawcoat Park.
But there are some key absentees again for manager Brian Dawson to find replacements for ahead of their Premier Division trip to Rossendale.
Cleator Moor Celtic are looking to get-over the disappointment of a heavy Fred Conway County Cup reversal to Penrith last week and are at home to Burscough Richmond.
It looks tight on paper, with the visitors one place and three points better off than Celtic from the same number of games.
Celtic do have two defenders missing through injury but it gives an opportunity to two of the younger players in a squad of 16.
Millom have been on a decent run of form and tomorrow have a home game against Blackpool Wren Rovers, who are directly below them in the table by a point but the visitors do have four games in hand.
Milnthorpe Corinthians will be looking to continue their progress when they visit CMB, although they do trail their hosts by eight points and from a game more.
In the Wearside League Windscale are at home to the bottom side Shotton Colliery who have one win and two draws to show from 22 games so far.
Windscale manager Stephen Fawcett said: “Owen Woodburn and Andrew Begbie are away while Lewis Selkirk is working.
“Other than that I have 17 to pick from so no issues really.”
