People are being urged to take care as snow and ice continues to grip parts of Cumbria.
Cumbria police said cold conditions were expected to continue this morning, Sunday February 15.
The Met Office issued yellow warnings for snow and icy conditions, which remain in place until 10am today.
It said surfaces may remain slippery, and some areas may continue to see light wintry showers.
The force issued the following advice:
- Driving: Icy patches are likely, especially on untreated or rural roads. Slow down, leave extra space and drive cautiously.
- Walking: Pavements and footpaths may be icy. Use treated routes where possible and take care on shaded areas.
- Frozen water: Keep away from frozen lakes, ponds, tarns and rivers. Ice remains unstable and unsafe.
- Outdoor activity: Avoid heading onto the fells without proper winter equipment and preparation.
- Check on others: Check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may need assistance this morning.
The A66 between Brough and Bowes was closed yesterday at 8pm due to the predicted snow and National Highways teams have been working overnight to clear the carriageways and treat the surface.
It is expected to be closed until at least 8am today, Sunday February 15.
Fell roads are closed in parts of Cumbria.
They are:
- Whinlatter Pass – Closed from the top of the fell road by the visitor centre to Lorton. The route from Braithwaite to the visitor centre remains open as it part of the authority’s standard gritting route.
- Honister Pass
- Newlands Pass
- Hard Knott Pass
- Corney Fell
