After a promising finish to the previous tournament, Penrith travelled to Manchester for their second tournament in Regional Div 3 NW.

With only three matches to play, they decided not to take any subs.

All their matches were against university teams, which is always a lottery, depending on who is currently at the university.

Their first match was against Manchester University. Leo Davies got them off to a good start, but Manchester quickly equalised.

However, Penrith then settled their defensive organisation and stormed to a 13-1 victory with most goals scored on quick breaks and all members of the team getting on the scoresheet.

Tim Mather scored 2, Leo scored 3, Jonathan Stables & Nigel Smith both scored 1 and Dylan Raeburn scored the remaining 6.

A fantastic start to the tournament.

Next up were Liverpool University, which was a much tighter game. Penrith went 1-0 down early on, but managed to equalise with a Leo goal, only to go 2-1 down again before Tim took them ahead with 2 goals.

However, Liverpool came back to draw 3-3, but after a tight to and fro period, with Penrith even saving a penalty against them. Eventually Penrith got a break and sealed the victory with a Dylan goal.

Last match was against Lancaster University. Having watched them play their earlier games, Penrith were feeling confident.

It started well with 2 goals from Leo and a goal from Nigel, but Lancaster then clawed back 2 goals.

Penrith settled their nerves with another goal from Dylan, but failed to adequately mark Lancaster’s key attacker. Lancaster pulled it back to 4-4.

The Penrith team all felt pleased with their performance.

Two wins and a draw pulled them up to third in the division with one tournament to go.
