
In the JJ’s Workington Pool A league Harrington Legion earned a key victory over Packhorse A to go two points clear at the top of the league.
On the night it was Steve Buchanan who helped put the Legion 4-1 up but Pack Horse fought back through Carl Ennis whose second singles win on the night tied the match 5-5.
Legion collected themselves and eventually Gavin Simpson held his nerve to secure his team the 8-5 win.
JJ’s B looked to remain joint top as they faced Station Road A at home and they started positively to lead 3-2.
In the sixth frame it was Paul Griffin’s superb yellow ball pot to develop his final ball which helped level the match 3-3.
Station Road stole a march, however, winning all three doubles and despite JJ’s fightback they couldn’t stop Mike Walkers clearance to clinch the match 7-6.
Cons Club B visited the Waverly and it was a terrific contest that saw the lead change four times before the Cons edged ahead in frame nine.
They only needed one frame with three to play and it was Gav Parkinson’s clearance that finally secured the 7-6 victory.
At the bottom of the table the relegation battle hotted up as Station Road C earned a vital 7-6 win over JJ’s A thanks to a final frame decider win by Steve Potts.
Station Road C jumped ahead of JJ’s C to 8th due to JJ’s losing 11-2 to an impressive Moss Bay A.
In the B League it was the top of the table clash between Harrington Legion B and the Grapes to see who would emerge as favourites to go on and claim the league title.
Steven Cook got the Grapes off to a good start and they raced to a 4-0 lead. The Legion then fought back to level 4-4 thanks to a Will Kinsella and Jordan Crickett doubles win.
With the match delicately poised it was Denis Caine and Ian Carter for the Grapes that scored the crucial doubles win which helped their team win the match 7-6.
Red House A kept themselves in contention for promotion as they defeated the Miners 7-6.
In a close match that saw Red House take the lead five times only to be pegged back, it was Jordan Swinburn’s final frame decider that secured the win.
The Bees Knees earned their second win of the season to move off the bottom of the B league. Brady Simpson capped off a comprehensive 9-4 victory for the Bees against Royal Oak.
In the last B league fixture Red House B remain fourth thanks to Stuart Nordt’s frame winner against Station Road B to secure a 7-6 win.
In the C league Ray Cottier and Andrew Forster’s doubles win for the Grapes B ensured they moved into the top four thanks to a 10-3 victory over Vinnies Bar.
This meant Union Jack Club B dropped to fifth due to a 7-6 loss to WashHouse Miners.
The Jack Club started-off well to lead 4-1 but couldn’t hang on as the Miners’ Gary Blackwell clinched the winning frame.
Moss Bay B remain second as Karl Donald was on top form winning both his frames to secure a 9-4 victory over Railway Club.
Finally, Luke Smith was the match winner for JJ’s D as they got their fourth win of the season to move up to 8th thanks to a 7-6 win over the Roundabout.
