Kendal and Penrith are set to go head-to-head tomorrow in the second semi-final of the Webb Ellis County Cup.
It’s back to back confrontations for the two Regional 1 North East sides after Kendal triumphed 20-16 in a league clash at Winters Park last week.
Penrith, after a run of heavy defeats, have steadied the ship with some much closer defeats but a morale-boosting win has eluded them.
They have gradually got players back from a depressingly long injury list, and as holders, will be looking for a big performance at Kendal.
The hosts are in seventh position in the League table, three places and ten points ahead of their county rivals.
They are also 44 points in credit on differential scoring while Penrith have the second worst in the league at minus 423. They have shipped more points (770) than anyone.
The referee for the game is Lee Fish, who is an exchange official from Northumberland who will be assisted by Martin Maughan and Dan Shovelton.
Three of the Cumbrian teams in Regional 2 North have home fixtures while Aspatria, sweating on a relegation play-off appointment at the end of the season, aren’t playing.
Durham City are on the same number of points as the Black Reds and will play their catch-up game – postponed last Saturday – tomorrow at Keswick, so help from a fellow county club would be gratefully received. Martin Denvir will referee.
Two other games postponed last week are also scheduled to try again tomorrow – Upper Eden v Percy Park (Jonny Watson) and Wigton v Consett (Cieran Trainor).
There’s only one game scheduled for Counties 1 Cumbria in which Keswick 2nds will be at home to Egremont (Gerry Garvey).
Kirkby Lonsdale went top after last week’s walkover win over Penrith 2nds and Hawcoat Park moved second after they beat Windermere 79-3.
In the special takeover day at Winters Park, Roy Hyslop will officiate in the showpiece ladies game between Penrith and Darlington.
