Furness youngsters enjoyed an unforgettable journey through space this half-term.
The University of Cumbria joined forces with Furness Education Trust to deliver Cosmic Creatopia – an immersive day of science and creativity at Furness Academy.
Designed to spark curiosity and creativity, the free event welcomed children aged seven to 11 from across the area for a packed programme of interactive activities led by University of Cumbria Primary Education students.
At the heart of the day was the Wonderdome mobile planetarium, where participants stepped inside an inflatable dome to explore the mysteries of the universe in an immersive setting.
Alongside their space adventures, children took part in hands-on science and creative workshops blending art, imagination and discovery.
The university said its partnership with Furness Education Trust reflected a shared commitment to widening access to inspiring educational experiences.
By working with local schools and communities, the initiative aims to raise aspirations and showcase the exciting opportunities education can unlock for young people in Barrow.
It added: “The event highlights the university’s long-term commitment to the region through its Towards 2030 (T2030) strategy, which sets out the University of Cumbria’s vision to transform lives and livelihoods through learning, applied research and practice, for now and for future generations, while strengthening its role as a university in and for Barrow.
“By opening a campus in Barrow, the university is creating new opportunities that address local skills needs and support the town’s growing role in the UK’s infrastructure.”
Dr Ruth Palmer-Harrison, Dean of the Institute of Education, Arts and Society at University of Cumbria said: “Cosmic Creatopia beautifully brought learning to life, where science and art came together to inspire and captivate young minds.
“Seeing their excitement as they explored the planetarium and took part in creative workshops was truly inspiring.
“Events like this are about raising aspirations early, breaking down barriers and helping local young people see that their ambitions can take them anywhere. I was very proud of our Primary Education students leading the activities in such an engaging and inspiring manner.”
