Three of Cumbria’s teams in the Premier Division of the West Lancashire League face away trips tomorrow.
Milnthorpe Corinthians are the only ones with a home fixture as they entertain league leaders Eagley.
It will be a stern test for a Corinthians side which has shown a big improvement over the last couple of months to climb out of the two relegation places.
Unfortunately Whitehaven are still bottom of the pile, 11 points off safety and looking destined for a drop to Division One.
They travel to Burscough Richmond tomorrow and manager Brian Dawson said: “The starting 11 is like a revolving door at the moment. Can’t seem to get a settled team together.
“There’s a few back this week but also a few missing.”
Cleator Moor Celtic travel to Blackpool Wren Rovers and manager Gareth Agnew will be taking a young side with the majority under 21.
Agnew said: “It’s a good chance for some of the younger lads to stake a claim for a regular place as one or two of the senior players are out with injuries or work commitments.
“We worked in training last night on the shape we are going to use and it seemed to go well but Rovers are a good team at home and I’m interested to see how the younger lads go against them.”
Wren Rovers won 2-0 at Millom last week and tomorrow the south Cumbrians hope to make amends when they travel to Astley and Buckshaw United.
Their hosts are some six places and 12 points behind them but they have five games in hand and with only 16 fixtures completed that’s the lowest in the Premier Division.
In the Wearside League Windscale have a tough game in prospect when they travel to second-in-the-table Seaton Carew in the semi-final of the Shipowners Cup.
Manager Stephen Fawcett said: “We have 17 to pick from with Ryan Fitzwilliams missing out through work. Will Rooke and Matty Pierce are long term injury absentees while Joe Atkinson should be ready to return net week.
“We tasted success in the Alan Hood Charity Cup two years ago so it would be nice to repeat this in the Shipowners Cup.”
In the North West Counties Division One North Holker Old Boys entertain Colne after their trip to the Lancashire club was called-off on Tuesday.
Colne are just above the drop zone while Holker still hold play-off hopes with several games still in hand of teams above them in and on the fringes of the top five.
