
Cumbria Pool Association has announced the return of Garry Southern as its chairman for the 2026 season.
It’s a position he previously held in 2010 but has had many years service as chairman, secretary, and team manager with the association.
As such Garry brings deep experience and a long standing commitment to 8 ball pool in the county and described his appointment as a proud moment as preparations begin for the year ahead.
Garry has a wealth of experience within his committee to help assist with the operation Richard Forester is secretary and he has been a CPA stalwart for over two decades while Keith Moorby is treasurer.
Cumbria has long been recognised for its exceptional pool talent, with players who have achieved world and European titles.
This strong foundation continues to shape the county’s reputation within the English Pool Association.
Alongside celebrating this success, the association is placing renewed focus on developing the next generation of players and strengthening the ladies’ squad, ensuring long term growth and a sustainable pathway for emerging talent.
The 2026 county season begins this Sunday when Cumbria’s men’s, women’s, and senior teams travel to Greater Manchester for their opening fixture.
The association said it was optimistic about the season ahead and the opportunities it presents for players across all squads.
The CPA have also appointed their team captains for this season – Sally Walker will be the Ladies captain; John Martin is the Senior captain; Lee Sandwith will captain the A Team and Steven Higginson is the B Team captain while Steven Hewitt will be the B Team vice captain.
As a self-funded organisation, the Cumbria Pool Association is inviting local businesses to support its work through sponsorship.
