Train passengers face further disruption as Glasgow Central Railway Station remains closed until further notice.

A major fire at a vape shop near the city station gutted several buildings.

The station was closed and trains have been cancelled since Sunday.

All services to and from the station have been suspended and the disruption is expected to continue as safety inspections need to be carried out.

The routes affected are:

  • Avanti West Coast between Glasgow Central and Crewe / Birmingham New Street / London Euston
  • Caledonian Sleeper between Glasgow Central and London Euston
  • CrossCountry between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh / Plymouth
  • ScotRail routes to / from / through Glasgow Central
  • TransPennine Express between Glasgow Central and Liverpool Lime Street / Manchester Airport

National Rail said there was no timeframe for when the station would reopen.

Avanti West Coast

No trains will run to or from Glasgow Central today.

An amended train service will run to Motherwell, Carlisle and Preston allowing customers to connect with trains to Edinburgh and local services to the Glasgow area. Customers are strongly encouraged to check before they travel.

Passengers can use tickets on the following train companies at no extra cost:

  • CrossCountry between Edinburgh and Birmingham
  • LNER services between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross
  • ScotRail between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh, and also between Argyle Street and Motherwell
  • TransPennine Express services from Edinburgh to Preston

Avanti West Coast tickets dated for travel on the Anglo-Scot route between Sunday 8 March and Thursday 12 March may be used on any Avanti West Coast service until the end of Thursday 12 March.

If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.

If you no longer wish to travel because your train is delayed or cancelled, you can request a full refund from where you bought your ticket.

TransPennine Express

Services will not operate between Glasgow Central and Liverpool Lime Street / Manchester Airport today.

As a result, passengers are advised not to travel. There are no trains or rail replacement buses running between locations.

Due to train crew displacement, services between Edinburgh and Newcastle / Manchester Airport will be subject to delays and cancellations in both directions.

You are advised to check before you travel on the above routes.

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on the following services:

  • Avanti West Coast between Edinburgh and Preston
  • Northern between Preston and Liverpool Lime Street / Manchester Airport
  • ScotRail services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street
  • TransPennine Express services between Edinburgh and Preston / Manchester Airport

Glasgow Queen Street is a short distance (approximately 5 minutes) from Glasgow Central.

If you have purchased a ticket and your journey has been affected by this disruption, you can use your ticket dated Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 March to travel on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 March at no extra cost. Alternatively, if the train you intended to travel on is cancelled or you are unable to complete your journey then you can apply for a refund from your point of purchase.

Caledonian Sleeper

The Glasgow – London service will start from Edinburgh. Boarding in Edinburgh will begin at 22:30, and you will travel in your booked accommodation as planned. The train will depart Edinburgh at 23:40.
