A family whose daughter attends a football club for people living with Cerebral Palsy and acquired brain injury is planning a Lake District challenge to raise funds for the charity.
Cerebral Palsy United FC is an inclusive and family friendly football club, delivering social interaction and participation in team sport for all ages and abilities.
The club holds sessions once a month at Carlisle’s Harraby Community Campus.
Sophia Benn, nine, attends the monthly sessions.
Mum Louise said: “Since she’s attended, her confidence and physical abilities have improved so much.
“As well as meeting up with her friends, who have the same condition as her, Sophia has developed strong relationships with Michelle and Olly who run the local sessions.”
Louise, Sophia and their family have decided to give something back to the club and will walk up the 388m Hallin Fell without physical aid on April 11 to raise money for it.
Louise said: “This will be huge.
“We have seen the positive impact that CP United has had on our daughter and because of this, we want to give CP United the best chance to remain resilient.
“We feel extremely lucky that there is a local provision for our daughters which focuses primarily on their specific needs without having to travel long distances.
“This is a charity that we want to help for the sake of our daughter and the many other children and young adults across the country.
“Please get behind us and please sponsor our challenge to keep their much loved monthly football sessions going for years to come.”
