Cumbria Men’s League season opened last night with a Division One game at Gillfoot.
Egremont A beat a young Maryport A side 24-0 after a close first-half in which the hosts only led by a converted try.
The Maryport side contained seven members of last season’s Under-16s squad but they were down to 14 players through injuries by the half-hour mark.
They battled on gamely and only conceded right on half-time.
The Egremont tries came from John Paul Brocklebank (2), Dillon Scott, Nathan Preston and man of the match Craig Birkett. Lloyd Stainton kicked two goals.
Darren Pape was named man of the match for Maryport A.
