The A66 is closed to high-sided vehicles between Penrith and Scotch Corner due to strong winds.
National Highways said people should expect delays as the road is closed between the M6 at Penrith and the A1M at Scotch Corner.
Road users travelling across the Pennines are advised to plan ahead and consider alternate routes such as the A69.
