A major operation was launched after two inflatable canoes capsized on Derwentwater.
Emergency services were called to the lake, near Keswick, today, Saturday April 4.
Three people were involved and none were wearing any form of personal flotation device.
One person reached the shore, another made it to St Herbert’s Island, and the third remained in the water.
A multi-agency response was initiated involving Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard teams, Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, Cumbria police, North West Ambulance Service, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, a Coastguard helicopter and the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
Assistance was also given by Keswick Launch.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “All three casualties were recovered and brought to the control point, where they were each assessed by the Great North Air Ambulance Service crew before being discharged at the scene.
“While this incident had a positive outcome, it serves as a reminder to all water users of the importance to check weather conditions, carry and use appropriate safety equipment, carry a means of calling for help and ensure they have the skills for the conditions before setting out. You life depends on it.”
