West Cumberland Federation joins Derwent Valley

The West Cumberland Federation has become part of the Derwent Valley Federation as a south section.

Delegates of the WCF had contacted the DVF to ask if there was any chance of coming under their direction as they were unable to find a new secretary.

That would mean they could not race under RPRA rules.

As a result the DVF vice presidents had a discussion and thought it would have to be done a step at a time, the first being to see if their members were willing to change their southern boundary.

At an open meeting of DVF members and a full discussion, two propositions were tabled:

  1. That DVF extended their southern boundary to that of the West Cumbria Amalgamation
  2. That any clubs between the old and new southern boundaries would be in a south section of DVF

Both were passed unanimously.

This means that for DVF open races there will be a north section result and a south section result, along with an open result.

Both sections flying for all averages and trophies.

A Derwent Valley spokesman said: “WCF were informed of our decisions and in turn had a meeting to discuss it.

“The three clubs went back to their respective members to vote if they wanted to apply for DVF. All did and they put their applications in which were all voted in unanimously at a delegates meeting.”

The West Cumberland Federation only had three member clubs left – Cleator Moor, Lowca and Egremont – who will now compete in the south section of the Derwent Valley Federation.
