Whitehaven have confirmed that James Newton and Neil Frazer will remain in charge of the first team for the remainder of the 2026 season.
The pair took over when head coach Anthony Murray left the club on March 1 after securing the club’s first win against Rochdale Hornets.
Their first match in charge saw Haven draw 20-20 at home to Midlands Hurricanes, who won on Sunday at Workington.
But Haven had two weeks without games after that draw and in the duo’s second game they lost 52-20 at North Wales Crusaders, followed by a Good Friday derby defeat to Workington Town, 22-14.
The first win in charge came on Sunday at Goole when a blistering finish to the game earned them a 36-22 victory.
In a statement Whitehaven said: “The board has full confidence in both coaches and the work they are doing with the squad.
“They have shown strong commitment in difficult circumstances, and we believe they are the right people to lead the team through to the end of the campaign.
“As a club, we are focused on building stability and putting the right foundations in place both on and off the field.
“Work behind the scenes is ongoing to ensure we are in the strongest possible position moving forward.”
The statement concluded with a special message to fans about behaviour and how some are not fully supporting the club.
“We understand the passion of our supporters and the importance of results, however we ask that everyone continues to get behind the team and staff.
“Support is vital — personal abuse, whether in the stands or online, will not be tolerated.
“People read our social media daily, and any criticism whether implied or direct, affects people. That is not who we are as a club.
“We remain united in our aim to represent Whitehaven RLFC with pride and to finish the season as strongly as possible.”
Whitehaven return to Goole this weekend for back-to-back fixtures with the Vikings, but this time in the 1895 Cup competition.
