
In their latest Inter-County fixture at Carlisle’s QZone the Cumbria pool team took on Merseyside at four different levels.
A fiercely contested match saw Cumbria A fall just short, 26–18, after a spirited performance throughout.
The first half was tight, with Cumbria edging ahead 6–5 before Merseyside responded to take a 12–10 lead.
The quality of pool on display was excellent, matched by the team spirit that Cumbria prides itself on.
In the second half, a few tough rolls and some capitalised mistakes swung momentum their way — but once Cumbria find their rhythm in this phase of matches, the results will follow.
Strong contributions came from Dan Long, Ian Henderson, Dean Adams, and Garry Southern, each taking two wins from four frames.
A stand-out performance from Keith Moorby, delivered a superb 3 out of 4 victories.
But the Man of the Match went to Aaron Long, who produced a flawless unbeaten performance across his four frames.

Cumbria B were involved a roller-coaster of a match. They started brightly, taking the first set 6–5. Then after moving 9–7 ahead, Merseyside surged into a 15–10 lead in what felt like winning momentum.
But Cumbria B’s response was spot-on. Pure determination got them through as heads never dropped, and the team roared back, winning 10 of the next 13 frames.
A late Merseyside push made things tense, but Stuart Krause and Adam Clarke held their nerve, each potting their 8‑ball within seconds to seal a brilliant 24–20 victory.
Man of the Match for Cumbria was a three‑way tie between Craig Ungless, Adam Clarke and Jake Turner.
There was a superb return to winning ways for Cumbria Seniors, who delivered a dominant 32–12 victory over their Merseyside counterparts.
This was teamwork at its finest — every player supporting one another and contributing to the result.
Newcomer Paul Mostyn settled in seamlessly with a full house, matched by John Burns, who also delivered a perfect performance. Several other strong results rounded off an excellent day.
From the Cumbrian perspective it was a joy to watch.
The Cumbrian Ladies faced an uphill challenge against their Merseyside opponents, due to missing players, but battled with heart and togetherness throughout, eventually falling 15–29.
Player of the Match Debbie Halliwell produced an impressive ¾ which was a well‑deserved recognition for her consistency and commitment.

Cumbria officials have confirmed that John Howarth is the county’s newly appointed senior referee.
He is regarded as a fantastic addition to the team and to the county set-up.
