A quite remarkable finish at Holker Street last night saw Barrow grab an important lifeline as they beat Oldham 3-2 in stoppage time.
The Bluebirds looked to be heading for another home defeat with 10 minutes left as they trailed to a 49th minute goal.
But incredibly they scored three times inside nine minutes, and even when pegged back by an 88th minute Oldham equaliser had battled back to score their third and winning goal at the death.
Substitute Isaac Fletcher was the hero when he got on the end of an Elliot Newby cross to grab the vital winner in the 91st minute.
It was a severe blow to play-off chasing Oldham, especially after conceding twice they had grabbed an equaliser from skipper Tom Pett with two minutes of normal time remaining.
The late defeat was extra sickening for the Latics as this was their second successive loss and came after Wigan loanee Kai Payne had given them the lead four minutes into the second half.
Barrow keeper Wyll Stanway had produced an excellent stop to thwart Mike Fondop when he looked to have doubled the Oldham lead.
In that dramatic conclusion Danny Rose levelled on 82 minutes and a minute later Josh Gordon charged down keeper Mathew Hudson’s kick and had a simple task in tappinmg home the rebound.
Although Peet levelled, the absorbing finale was rounded off perfectly for Barrow when Fletcher netted the winner.
Barrow are still in the drop zone with three games left but are only a point behind three rivals and there is still much to play for.
This late recovery will have boosted morale considerably ahead of Saturday’s home game with Wallsall.
