Aspatria Pool League’s end of season knockout competitions continued this week with the semi-finals taking place.
In the top half knockout, league winners Sun Inn A travelled to the ever-improving Wigton Park BC, and it was the home side that flew out of the blocks early on.
They won the first three frames, thanks to Ryan Asbridge, Brady Bell and Caden Corrigan, before Paul Mostyn pulled one back for the Sun team.
Gareth Davenport put the Bowling Club into a commanding 4-1 lead, but Michael Prescott won the last singles for the league champions and the first double with David Thompson.
However, the Wigton team held out to clinch a final place thanks to Stephen Farish & Davenport.
The League’s second and third faced off in the other semi-final as Sun Inn B hosted Throstle A.
Ben Scott gave the Sun an early lead before Ian Johnston and David Barton put the Wigton team in front.
David Edwards and Dan Long then won the next two frames to put the Sun back in front at 3-2, before Martyn Frizell brought the match level at 3-3.
In the end though it was the Sun team that won the match 5-3 by clinching the next two doubles and a place in next week’s final.
In the bottom half knockout semi-final, Cumberland A entertained Letters B, and stormed into a 4-0 lead thanks to Geoff Davies, Dave Eland, Mike Ramsden and Kane Lennon with some inspired pool,
Letters then started a comeback by winning the last two singles, so trailed 4-2 going into the doubles.
However a strong performance by Davies and Eland in the first double won the match for the Silloth team and a final place.
In the other semi-final Wigton Rugby Club took on Sun Inn F.C, in a match that swung either way.
The Rugby Club team ended the singles with a 4-2 lead, thanks to Finn Carruthers, Michael Dodd, Steven Rumney and Eddie Miller, with only Zane Alderson and Tommi Allen winning for Sun FC.
It was then Rumney and Miller who clinched the match for the Rugby Club, winning the first double to book their final place.
