Workington Reds play their final away game of the season in the NPL Premier Division tomorrow at Warrington Town.
They are still looking to ensure their League safety sitting a point above the drop zone and want to get the job done ahead of next Saturday’s final game at Borough Park before development begins on the ground.
Reds boss Billy Barr said last night’s training session had been a good one, working on prep for the Warrington fixture.
Barr will announce his side later as he waits for fitness checks on a trio of players who have been absent in recent matches.
“Everyone is in good heart knowing what needs to be done and hoping that we can get to the last game with the job complete so that fans, officials and players can really enjoy the last game and all the memories it holds for so many people,” said Barr.
Kendal Town have to win their final game tomorrow at home to Thornaby – and then look for the results of play—off rivals West Auckland and Boro Rangers.
The trio go into the week-end showdowns chasing two play-off places with West Auckland (61pts), Boro Rangers (60) and Kendal (59).
West Auckland are at home to Whickham (where Kendal won 1-0 last week) while Boro Rangers host Newcastle Benfield.
Kendal chairman Michael O’Neill said: “It’s all down to this last game for three clubs and we are just looking for the win and then hoping that one, or both of the others have slipped up.
“Our crowds have been excellent this season and we are looking for the biggest yet tomorrow to give the team the backing it deserves.
“Tom Russell is back in the squad which is a massive lift to everyone. It was expected that his season was over with a hamstring strain, however he’s recovered in time to hopefully help us over the line. Otherwise the squad is the same as last week.”
Carlisle City complete their Northern League season with a trip to Crook Town but manager Dan Kirkuip has Tuesday’s Fred Conway County Cup final with Kirkoswald in his mind.
Kirkup said: “We will be leaving a few at home tomorrow, who have knocks and win, lose or draw we can’t move position in the table.
“We are looking after lads for Tuesday’s Cup final so there will be five subs at half-time and will be looking to give lads 45 minutes each to try and avoid any more injuries.
“We have a few missing already on Tuesday – two are suspended, two are Cup-tied and two are definitely out through injuries.”
Penrith completed their season last Saturday with a fine 3-1 win over Boro Rangers, so that was a good way to end the campaign against one of the play-off hopefuls.
Too many late draws in particular, after they had been in front, cost them a higher place in the table than currently 12.
In the North West Counties League playing catch-up after so many postponements proved too much for Holker Old Boys and they go into the last game in tenth place, five points off the play-offs.
They are five points and three places better off than Steeton where they will be travelling to complete the season.
In the Wearside League Windscale have had an impressive finish, capped by two away wins and a fine home draw with champions elect Seaton Carew on Wednesday.
The Atoms still have two games to play after tomorrow but hosts Silksworth are playing their final game of the season.
They had been struggling but have recently shown some decent form after parting ways with their manager about a month ago.
Windscale travel with a squad of 16 with three returning having missed the mid-week game – Ben Mahaffy, Rob Davidson and Joe Atkinson.
On the flipside Kieran Lawson, Louie Hall and Aiden Kegg drop out through personal commitments.
In the West Lancashire League Whitehaven will be hoping to build on last week’s home 2-2 draw with Blackpool Wren Rovers when they follow-up at the County Ground against Poulton.
Manager Brian Dawson was delighted with the way his side fought back to draw but said: “We lost Tom Martin to a bad hamstring injury towards the end of the game which was a blow.
“Apart from that we are pretty much full strength, buoyed by the availability of some lads from Reds Under-18’s.”
By way of a recent form guide Poulton also drew 2-2 with Blackpool Wren Rovers last night.
Cleator Moor Celtic were better than the 4-1 defeat at home to Burscough Richmond showed last week, but to improve they have to do better in the final third of the field. A series of opportunities in recent weeks have not been put away.
Manager Gareth Agnew will be hoping they can put that right tomorrow with another home game, this time against CMB.
Millom travel to Blackpool Wren Rovers while Milnthorpe Corinthians entertain Astley and Buckshaw United.
