West Cumberland League champions Northside are through to the Sunday County Cup final on May 3 – without breaking sweat.
They should have hosted Morton West yesterday morning but the Carlisle League side pulled out and it means they will take on another Carlisle side, Denton Holme, at a venue still to be announced.
Unfortunately this second postponement seems to have created some ill feeling between the two clubs.
The tie should have been played a week earlier but was called off late due to Northside’s concerns over the Curwen Park pitch – and Morton West had a hefty bus bill to pay.
Northside had been going into the County Cup semi-final on the back of a domestic triumph less than 48 hours earlier when they beat the Zebras 4-0 in the final of the Albert Murphy Trophy at Workington Town’s Fibrus Community Stadium.
Goals from Max Litt (2), Tommy Whitehead and Chad Grisdale clinched the victory although Division One opponents Zebras earned plaudits for a gritty effort as underdogs.
The four games which took place yesterday were all in the League Cup groups, a competition which is played at three separate tiers.
Those groups should be resolved later this week with the semi-finals arranged for Thursday, May 7 (Tier 3); Sunday, May 10 (Tier 2) and Sunday, May 17 (Tier 1).
Latest round of games saw wins for Senhouse Street, Deer Orchard, Workington Falcons and Mirehouse Juniors.
Goals from Liam White (2) and Nick Wood earned Orchard a 3-2 win at Lowca Pirates for whom Callum Wilson and Owen Todd were on target.
James Shaw scored a hat-trick for Senhouse in their 4-3 win at Sun Inn. Brad Newell also netted with Lewis Fisher (2) and Louie Elliot responding for Sun.
Workington Falcons beat The Swan 3-0 with goals from Dylan Bragg, Lewis Crelling and Liam Holder.
Mirehouse’s 4-2 win over Maryport Amateurs was made-up of goals from Liam Elliot (2), Cyran Corlett and Ryan Taylor.
Denver Farrer and Kylan Farrer scored for Maryport.
