Cumbria Conference leaders Hensingham produced a fine second half performance to win their match of the day with Millom.

Trailing 18-6 at half-time they scored 22 unanswered points to win 28-18 and maintain their 100% record.

Millom had started really well and within 31 minutes had established an 18-0 lead with tries from Jackson Evans, Dom O’Brien and Rio McQuistan, all converted by Evans.

Importantly for Hensingham they got on the scoresheet six minutes before the break with a try from Luke Charlton, converted by Dylan Bragg.

The second half was completely different as Hensingham called the shots and Millom going away from all the good things they had done earlier.

Within 12 minutes Hensingham had not only pulled back the deficit but gone in front with tries from Daniel McGarry, Nick Maudling and Charlton, two of them converted bny Bragg.

There were only four points in it, however, until Fletcher Holgate sealed the win with a try four minutes from time and Bragg added the extras.

Luke Charlton (Hensingham) and Connor Terrill (Millom) were the respective men of the match.

Dalton are the other 100% side in the Conference, from a game less than Hensingham, and they were 50-18 winners against Ulverston.

There were even completion sets in the first 10 minutes but after some quick Dalton rucks, following good work from props Jordon Jones and Ben Atkison, it was Isaac Barber who scored after a good inside pass from scrum half Harry Gordon.

A couple of penalties conceded by Ulverston provided some good field position for Dalton with Ross Bird going through to score under the posts.

Ulverston dug in and responded well but were held up by some good defence after a couple of sets of sustained pressure on the Dalton try line.

After some more ill-discipline from Ulverston a neat pass from Bird found centre Dan Knott who slid over in the corner.

Seaton’s Nicky Williamson put his boots back on at 52 years of age to play alongside Luke.

With good field position centre Tom Farren was then over in the opposite corner to make it 20-0 to the visitors.

Just before half time, some quick rucks from Ulverston saw them move 40 metres upfield and a good chip over was well gathered and scored by the Ulverston stand off and converted.

Ulverston looked to make a strong start to the second-half and capitalised from a knock on straight from kick off which resulted in the Ulverston loose forward crashing over from short range.

After some more pressure from Ulverston a kick was well collected by Bird before Dalton broke down the left with the ball going through hands before winger Jack Gedling scored out wide.

Ulverston again applied strong pressure in the visitors’ 30 before some off the cuff rugby and offloads saw a neat tip-on from the Ulverston prop turned stand-off found the winger and he dived over by the corner flag.

A clever Dalton kick off forced an error providing good field position with Gordon picking out Farren on play one with an excellent pass for him to stroll over untouched.

Direct running by forwards Ewan Costa and Devon Hartley caught Ulverston on the retreat and a short ball from stand off Conor Grant hit Floyd Tweddle on a great line for the big back rower to stride over.

More good running from Ben Ashburner and substitute Hartley led to Grant and Gordon linking for a Sam Atkinson half break with Isaac Maclean scoring from dummy half only for it to be ruled out after the referee impeded the Ulverston defender.

But almost immediately Gordon found Farren on the next play with an inside pass for him to dive over next to the sticks. A knock on by Ulverston on the Dalton 20 then led to Grant out-stripping the defensive line to score from 80 metres.

Late on, Ulverston finished strongly with their winger diving onto a kick to corner for the last play of the game.

The defeat was made even worse for Ulverston through an injury to half-back Max Nisbet who had landed the single conversion.

He suffered a serious shoulder injury and was seeing a specialist today, with the prospect of an operation which will end his season.

Their tries were scored by Marc Storey, Josh Rankin, Zak Hopkins and Alex Grimshaw with Will Coles named man of the match.

Barrow Island can’t stop scoring at the moment and after last week’s 70 points against Maryport they collected another big haul in their 64-10 win over Seaton Rangers.

They scored 11 tries headed by Ellis Archer (3), Fin Dutton (2), man of the match Josh Haney (2), Aidan Wright, Lucas Anderson-Moore and Ollie Holmes. Archer kicked ten conversions.

Euan Nicholson and Tom Dover scored the Seaton tries and Kieran Robinson landed a conversion.

Helping out injury-hit Seaton in the middles were 52-year-old Nick Williamson and 47-year-old James Mackay, who both received thanks and acknowledgements for their efforts from coach Neil Frazer.

He said: “We wouldn’t have had a team otherwise and it was great that Nicky got to play with his son Luke.

James played big minutes considering he hadn’t played for 12 years.

“Tom Dover and Aidan Fryer also did a fantastic job in the middle and played big minutes.

“Young Jack Morgan looks a good prospect for us if he’s prepared to stick in at it. He’s got genuine pace to burn and he had a great game on the wing. When he moved to full-back he prevented another two or three tries from being scored.”

Ellenborough Rangers were another side who reached the half-century mark, travelling to Hindpool Tigers and coming home with a 50-22 victory.

Niall Gray (2), Rocco Okesene (2), Jordan Ostle (2), Kai Gilhespy, Daniel Penman and Garry Taylor scored the tries with Okesene adding seven goals. Gary Tierney was their man of the match.

The fifth game was the tightest of all with Maryport bouncing back from last week’s mauling at Barrow Island to beat Distington 22-18 in a thriller.

It was 6-6 at half-time after an even 40 minutes when both sides had chances. Distington took the lead with an 80 metre interception try by winger Callum Fox.

Maryport hit back with a try from young substitute forward Luke Cuthbertson after a good offload from scrum-half Lewis Moore who converted.

Stand-off Keenan Winter scored two second half tries for Maryport and winger Attlee Skillen also got in, two converted by Moore.

Jaiden Hewer and Jessie Joe Parker scored the other Distington tries with James Motum selected as their man of the match by Maryport.

Liam Anderson, returning from a long injury lay-off was Man of the Match for Maryport.

Mark Foster, the Maryport coach, gives his views on the game below:
