Carlisle City have retained the Fred Conway County Cup with a 3-0 win over Kirkoswald at Penrith’s Frenchfield.
The Westmorland League side were gritty opponents and although second-best for a fair bit of the contest, did pose problems particularly from long throws into the box.
But City defended well against this type of bombardment and even when they conceded a penalty goalkeeper Thomas Randall was equal to it, making the save to deny Johnny Murray.
The City hero was Jordan Irving who scored all three goals for his side. The first gave the Sky Blues the lead just before half-time.
The second came at an important time in the second-half while the third made sure the trophy was staying at Gillford Park.
Irving had been the goal-scorer last season when City beat Penrith 1-0 to lift the trophy.
It was Kirkoswald’s first appearance in the County final and they could feel proud of their achievement.
