Whitehaven continued their improved run of results with a confident 4-1 win at local rivals Cleator Moor Celtic last night.
It was only the club’s second win of the season and followed two draws, giving them a boost as they head towards Division One next season.
For Celtic it was the second time they have lost to their neighbours and long-time rivals and it will have hurt.
By contrast they have been on a poor run of results although some of the performances have been good enough, although lacking in quality in the final third.
Whitehaven couldn’t have asked for a better start when Brad Harrison headed them in front after only eight minutes.
Brian Dawson did the basics right – defending well when Celtic enjoyed spells of possession and being quick to get the ball forward when the opportunity arose.
It was a quick break from Kian Goulding which produced the second goal on 39 minutes.

Whitehaven continued to work hard in all areas of the field on the resumption and they scored their third goal on 63 minutes through Joe Carney.
Celtic were unable to make a breakthrough until the 86th minute when Marcus Atkinson finished off a well-worked move but immediately Whitehaven responded and Goulding grabbed his second to the delight of their travelling supporters.

Milnthorpe Corinthians were also involved in Premier Division action last night and they almost produced their result of the season.
Joe Dickson gave them a 43rd minute lead against champions Eagley who have only lost twice all season.
Sam Rigby did equalise after 62 minutes but it took an 87th minute penalty by Kieran Sisson to get Eagley over the line for a 23rd win in 28 games.
