Plans are in the pipeline for a £1.3 million revamp of a Carlisle sports facility.
Cumberland Council, with Carlisle Sports CIO, have submitted a bid to the Football Foundation to overhaul the city’s Harraby 3G pitches.
The bid includes the installation of new external pitch surfacing, upgraded LED lighting, a designated spectator area, and an updated playing layout.
The proposal has been developed by the authority, Carlisle Sports, and the Cumberland FA.
Stephen Higgs, chair of Carlisle Sports, said: “Carlisle Sports are pleased and proud to have overseen the Harraby Sports facilities since they opened.
“We are grateful to GLL whose staff have run the site and enabled us to garner a six-figure sum which we are delighted to put towards the project.
“The refurbished and upgraded 3G pitches should set up the centre for a bright future for all its users from Harraby and the wider sporting community.”
After successfully managing and operating the Harraby 3G site for over a decade, Carlisle Sports CIO will transfer the site back to Cumberland Council, which will oversee the future development of the 3G pitches, sports hall, and cycle track.
Day-to-day operations and bookings will continue to be managed by GLL in the usual way.
The outcome of the Football Foundation funding bid is expected to be announced in July. If successful, a detailed timetable for project delivery will be developed to minimise disruption for all users.
