Workington Town have had a boost ahead of Sunday’s tough-looking trip to Oldham.
Spencer Fulton, Tuarae Rawhiti, and Mason Lewthwaite have all been back in training after medical clearance following their respective head injury assessments and soft tissue issues.
It will put them back in contention for selection in the coming weeks with coach Jonty Gorley keeping a close eye in training tonight hoping they might be included in his squad for Sunday.
Winger Oscar Doran is also back in training after a tissue injury but he is not as near a return as the other three.
Meanwhile Jake Bradley has successfully undergone surgery following a significant ankle injury. While the operation went well, his return to action remains unclear at this stage as he begins his rehabilitation process.
Stevie Scholey is currently being monitored after sustaining a rib injury with the club medical staff continuing to assess his progress, with no confirmed timeline yet for his return.
Ross Ainley is in a similar position, with a shoulder injury that is being closely managed. His return date is also yet to be determined as he continues his recovery.
Town’s game with Oldham will be played at Stalybridge Celic’s Bower Fold ground after their split from Boundary Park.
They go into the game after making history in their 72–24 victory over Hunslet on Sunday in the 1895 Cup, with an extraordinary 11 separate try scorers on the scoresheet.
That milestone had never been reached in the club’s 150-year history. Roughyeds had recorded 10 different try scorers on six separate occasions, but never surpassed that mark – until last week.
What made the achievement even more striking was how unremarkable the first half had looked by comparison. At 18-18 at the break, there was little to suggest the game would erupt into a record-breaking second forty minutes of attacking rugby when they scored 54 points.
