The third Cumbria Diversity Carnival is set to dazzle the streets of Carlisle in June.
Youth and community based groups from the city, and the wider Cumberland area, will take part in the event to showcase and promote diversity in all its forms, celebrating different cultures, heritages, sexualities and abilities, proving once again that we all have more in common than that which divides us.
Held on June 20, the main activity will be a parade that will start outside the Old Fire Station, travel through Carlisle city centre and finish at Bitts Park, where participants will enjoy a Big Lunch-style Bring and Share picnic with music.
The parade will include groups from James Rennie School, Multicultural Cumbria, Pride in North Cumbria, Carlisle International Women’s Group, Cumberland Sanctuary Network and Afrikana CIC.
Organisers will be holding workshops with several of these groups to make costumes and displays over the next few months.
People are welcome to join in the parade which will start at 11.30am, meeting from 11am at Warwick Street.
They are encouraged to dress up in colourful clothes and to be prepared to dance along to music from local samba drumming bands.
This event coincides with Refugee Week, Pride Month, and Learning Disability Week.
The organising groups include Pride in North Cumbria, Multicultural Cumbria, Afrikana CIC and Carlisle One World Centre.
