Carlisle Cycling Association enjoyed another excellent night of racing under blue skies last night.
With many of the regular youth riders already en route to compete in the Isle of Man Youth Tour this weekend the focus was on the younger riders.
A good number of Under-8s, Under-10s and Under-12s took part in the races with local riders Oliver Nichol and Sophie Fearon topping the podium in the Under-8s races and more Cumbrian victories from Aran Wingfield and Imogen Watkins in the Under-12s.
The Scottish visitors took the wins in both Under-10s races however, with Isla Faichen and David McIntyre crossing the line first.
With a little extra time in the programme this week the young riders also enjoyed two extra races, a single lap time trial and a slow race to demonstrate their bike handling skills.
All the children acquitted themselves very well and everyone took home a bag of sweets to reward their efforts.
The adult race for Category 3 and 4 riders that followed got off to a fast start and the riders soon split into two groups with the leading bunch stretching out the gap to the chasers.
Youngest rider in the race, 17-year-old Zack Stobbs of Otley CC, made a brave solo attack with several laps to go and for a while it seemed he had victory in his sights.
However, the chasing bunch started to close the gap and Adam Russell attacked in the back straight and passing Stobbs took Scot Archie Findlay with him.
Spectators wondered if Russell had gone too early as Findlay looked very strong coming into the final few hundred metres of the race, but Russell accelerated again out of the last bend to take a convincing victory.
Findlay finished second with his countryman Fergus Robinson rounding out the podium.
Cameron Annable was the highest placed 4th category rider and Blain Ewing first Cumbrian rider to finish.
