After their heroics at Scunthorpe on Friday, Workington Comets couldn’t maintain their winning form in their deciding BSN Series clash with holders Redcar Bears.

Trailing by six points from the away leg there were high hopes they could turn it round, take the aggregate points and qualify for the next stage of the competition.

But the Bears rose to the occasion winning by the same score 48-42 and new number one, former Workington rider Nicolai Klindt was unbeaten after a first race third and spearheaded the victory charge.

He had good support from Jake Allen (10) but really it was at reserve where Redcar won the meeting, outscoring the Comets (17-2).

Jody Scott had three wins in a five-ride 11 points and former Comet Ace Pijper chipped in with 6 – plus three bonus points for good measure.

By comparison guest Ryan Ingram only had two thirds in six rides while home debutant Max Perry failed to score in four outings.

On this occasion the Comets used rider replacement for the injured Niklas Holm Jakobsen, which only yielded three points while ex-Comet Kyle Howarth was a solid replacement for the injured Craig Cook with nine points.

Once again number one Jonas Jeppesen was the star of the show racking up 16 points from four wins and two second places.

His final outing, when he was beaten by Klindt in heat 15 was a brilliant race with two committed riders going at it from the tapes.

The Comets might have lost but speedway was the true winner as the Northside track showed again how it provides outstanding entertainment for the fans – and there was a good crowd in last night to witness it.
