Whitehaven have added two more new faces to the squad on a week’s loan heading into this Sunday’s Betfred Championship clash away to Swinton Lions.
Cole Marsh and Luca Walsh join the club on loan from Betfred Super League side St Helens joining fellow Saint Alfie Sinclair who has extended his loan for a further week after making his debut in last week’s defeat vs Dewsbury.
Alfie Briggs, who joined the club on loan from Wakefield Trinity, and also made his debut last time out, will also be with the club for this weekend’s fixture.
Marsh, 20, is a hooker or loose forward who joined the Saints aged 14 and has played in the club’s scholarship and under-18s sides before firmly establishing himself in the reserve set-up last season.
He has made six appearances for the reserves so far in 2026 scoring two tries, also being named as 18th man for Saints in their Super League victory at Hull FC.
Walsh,19, is a French half-back who was spotted by the Saints playing for his community club in France and signed for the club on the back of a three-week trial playing for both Under-18s and reserve sides.
He was rewarded with a full time contract for this season and has made seven appearances for the Saints reserves this season scoring three tries and kicking 15 goals.
Head coach James Newton said: “It’s great to get Alfie, Luca and Cole over the line for this week as they have all come through a great system at St Helens.
“Alfie was excellent last week both in defence and attack and played some really big minutes for us showing great leadership.
“Cole will come in and strengthen us through the middle and Luca will cover the half position which we have been trying to cover for a couple of weeks now with Jack Newbegin being sidelined.
“We are going to be covering players with knocks right up until Sunday so these guys will be a great boost to us. I would like to thank Saints for supporting us and welcome all three of them to the club.”
Rowan Stephenson, who joined the club on a two-week loan ahead of the Dewsbury game, sustained an ankle injury in the final training session ahead of the fixture and has returned to Trinity for treatment.
