Plans for new zebra crossings in Ulverston

Plans have been revealed for two new zebra crossings in Ulverston.

Westmorland and Furness Council is asking for people’s views about introducing the crossings on Springfield Road after requests from ward councillors, Ulverston Town Council, schools, and the wider community.

Springfield Road serves Ulverston Victoria High School, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and Sandside Lodge School, all close together.

An independent engineering safety study identified a lack of safe crossing points along the route.

The proposed scheme includes a zebra crossing near St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and a second zebra crossing just north of the junction to Springfield Park Road.

Some adjustments to existing parking and no waiting restrictions would be needed near the crossing points.

A statutory consultation on the proposals has opened and runs until Friday May 29.

A copy of the full legal order and associated plans, as well as a link to the online consultation, is available on the Westmorland and Furness Council website at https://www.westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk/parking-streets-and-transport/streets-roads-and-pavements/road-maintenance-closures-and-improvements/traffic-regulation-orders-tros/proposed-traffic-regulation-orders

Representations can also be made  :

  • By email to: [email protected]
  • By post to:  Traffic Management Team, Westmorland and Furness Council, South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal LA9 4DQ.

All correspondence should be clearly marked for the attention of the Traffic Management Team and quotes the reference SL-TR-2023-005.

Following the consultation period, a report on the proposal will go to South Lakeland Locality Board for a final decision.
