A Cumbrian housing developer has revealed plans for a 492-home estate in Kendal.

Story Homes has applied for planning permission to Westmorland & Furness Council for the scheme on land off Burton Road in the town.

It said properties would range from one- to six-bedroom and 35 per cent would be designated as affordable.

The firm added that via agreements, the development would provide around £4 million for local infrastructure including new pedestrian connectivity to Natland village, improvements to education, healthcare, transport, and community facilities.

Adam McNally, Cumbria and Scotland head of land and planning for Story Homes, said: “Kendal is a thriving community with a rich heritage, and we’re excited to bring forward proposals that respond to local housing needs while respecting the character of the area and improving connectivity.

“Having already established a presence here at our Brigsteer Rise, The Beeches and Kendal Parks Farm developments, we are committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable homes that complement the town.

“Our plans for Burton Road focus on creating a vibrant neighbourhood with generous green spaces, enhanced public areas and rights of way, and homes people will be proud to live in.

“We look forward to engaging with Westmorland and Furness Council and the local community as the application progresses.”
