West Cumbrian slimmers raise £9,000 for cancer charity

West Cumbrian slimmers have raised £9,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Slimming World members in Cockermouth took part in the charity’s national Big Clothes Throw campaign.

Each year, slimmers donate bags of clothes they have outgrown on their weight loss journeys.

Members say donating their larger clothes is often an emotional milestone, representing improved health, confidence and a fresh start.

The local groups are led by consultant Kim Mattinson, who has lost 10 stones, said she believed the welcoming and supportive atmosphere within the groups was the key to their success.

She said: “The groups are about so much more than weight loss. People come for support, friendship and encouragement, and together we’ve built a real community.

“I’m incredibly proud of what our members achieve — not only for themselves, but for others too.”
