Plans for 219 new homes in a north Cumbrian town have been given the go-ahead.
Story Homes applied for permission from Cumberland Council to build the estate on land off Carlisle Road in Brampton.
The authority’s planning committee, which was recommended to approve the scheme, gave it the green light at a meeting today.
The 10 hectare site is currently greenfield and used for grazing and is next to Story Homes’ recent Winchester Place development.
The new development would range from two- to six-bedroom homes, including house types from terraces, semi-detached and detached.
It is proposed that 65 would be designated as affordable – 23 two-bedroom and nine three-bedroom homes for rent and 17 two-bedroom and 16 three-bedroom homes for discounted sale.
Every home on the estate would have solar panels and EV charging points.
Brampton Parish Council said while the principal of the development was accepted in policy terms, there were several areas of concern, including the cumulative impact of applications in the town on its infrastructure and public services.
After the plans were approved, Phil Fell, Cumbria & Scotland senior land manager at Story Homes, said: “This scheme has been thoughtfully designed to create a sustainable new community with high-quality public open space, a dedicated play area, and energy-efficient features throughout.
“Alongside the new homes, the development will also deliver significant investment into local infrastructure and services, benefiting both new and existing residents.”
As part of the Section 106 agreement, the development will contribute more than £830,000 towards local infrastructure and community improvements.
This includes funding for primary education provision, improvements to off-site sports pitches and associated infrastructure and highway work.
Work on the new development is set to begin next year.
