Abbeytown Ladies travelled to Poolfoot Farm, the home of Fleetwood Town to participate in a memorial tournament on Sunday.

In the group stages Abbeytown came away with draws against Darwen FC, Thornton Cleveleys, and Blackpool FC and a narrow loss to AFC Bolton.

This however, still proved enough to advance to the quarter finals of the plate.

Abi Heaton scored the only goal in the group stage.

Abbeytown then faced Morecambe FC, a team four leagues above them! Kayleigh Wharton found the back of the net, to start her scoring for the day taking us to the semi-final.

Next up for the side in red and white was Blackpool FC Ladies in the semi-final.

Goals from Sadie Holliday was the difference between the two sides and a battling performance from Niamh Edmondson, Abbie Woodburn also contributed massively to the win.

Onto the final, the reds went in as underdogs against Altricham! A team again four divisions above.

In the opening few minutes Kayleigh Wharton put Abbeytown in front after a flick on from Abi Heaton.

A POTM performance from Amy Carr helped keep Altricham out.

After three minutes of added time, which felt like forever, the final finally was blown and Abbeytown were crowned champions of the Fleetwood Town memorial Plate competition.

Abbeytown captain Caitlin Harrison lifted the trophy for the team.
