Team Barrow has been announced as the headline sponsor for the third and final Dave Day.
The hugely popular ride out in memory of Dave Myers takes place on June 20.
Thousands of motorcyclists are expected to make the pilgrimage to his hometown of Barrow, in honour of the much-loved Hairy Biker.
Over the last two years tens of thousands of bikers have taken part in the event – and thousands more are expected to take part in this year’s, which has been dubbed ‘The Last Ride Home’ by organisers.
The event, which raises money for some of Dave’s favourite charities, provides a platform for Barrow on a national stage.
The official ride starts from Ace Café in London, a mecca for motorcyclists, with bikers joining up all along the route before converging on Barrow.
Barrow BID is working to ensure bikers can arrive in the town centre safety, as well as providing toilets for visitors and the locals who come out to see the bikes.
Westmorland and Furness Council has already pledged a £10,000 grant to help towards the costs, with Team Barrow – the partnership between Government, BAE Systems and Westmorland and Furness Council, providing headline sponsorship.
Andrew Bennett, who has recently been appointed Interim chief executive of Team Barrow, said: “Dave Day has become a huge event for Barrow, loved by locals and providing an opportunity to showcase the town at its best to visitors from all over the country.
“It is important the town celebrates Dave’s life and the contribution he made to our community – and we are proud to be sponsoring the event again this year.”
Paul Hodgson, Manager of Barrow BID, said: “We are really grateful to Team Barrow for their sponsorship of this year’s Dave Day.
“An event of this scale and popularity requires lots of organisation and Team Barrow’s generous contribution will help ensure the riders and the local community have a safe and enjoyable day.”
Over the coming days Barrow BID will be sharing more information about the event.
