As turnarounds go they don’t come much better than the one witnessed by Barrow fans last night.
Trailing 28-0 to Dewsbury at the break, it had been one of the worst 40 minutes served up by a Barrow side for years.
Missed tackles, an inability to complete sets and handling errors handed the initiative to Dewsbury and they cashed in big style.
The Rams scored five tries, four of which were converted by Jacob Hookem.
Jack Addy (6), Delaney (19), Senior (23), Algar (30) and Copland (36) all crossed to leave the Raiders in deep trouble.
So to come back and score 39 unanswered points in the second half to win the game was a bit special from Paul Crarey’s troops.
Something needed to be done and Barrow made a positive start when Andrew Bulman went over after only two minutes for an unconverted try.
On 49 minutes Ryan King used his strength to make the line and Brad Walker landed the first of his five conversions.
Strong work by Richards created an opportunity for Ellis Robson to go in for the third try, but it was almost the hour mark and there was still work to do.
Almost immediately though they were in again when Bulman broke, Alex Bishop shimmied and Shane Toal went in for the try.
There were jut six points between the two sides and after 68 minutes the Raiders were level.
This time Bishop didn’t need help as he jinked his way over for the try and Walker’s conversion made it 28-28.
The momentum was well and truly with Barrow and they had the extra incentive of a narrow lead when Walker landed a drop goal seven minutes from the end.
Dewsbury’s resolve had been broken and Joe Bullock charged over on 76 minutes to be followed two minutes from time by Curtis Teare after a 60 metre dash to the line.
