The Cumbria School Games Festival has been cancelled due to the weather.

The event, organised by Active Cumbria, was due to take place tomorrow, Thursday June 25, in Carlisle.

Active Cumbria said: “Following the recent period of hot weather, a number of participating schools have taken the decision to withdraw in order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of their pupils.

“As school participation is central to the festival, it has not been possible to proceed as planned.

“Despite the best efforts of Active Cumbria to implement additional measures, the safety and welfare of children, young people, staff and volunteers remains our top priority.

“We fully support the decisions made by schools in response to the current conditions.

“We are extremely disappointed that the festival will not go ahead, but we hope to reschedule for September.”
