Tony Pearce, a respected local businessman, has joined the board of directors at Whitehaven Rugby League club.
He’s the father of Ben Pearce and uncle of Jake Pearce, two of the local players who are making a name for themselves in the Whitehaven pack.
A player himself in his younger days at both league and union for clubs including Lowca and Moresby, he has also been heavily involved in the youth set-up at Hensingham.
Tony is involved in residential and business property maintenance and is also well known as a DJ and children’s entertainer.
He’s a long time pal of CEO Lee Butterworth and has answered his call to bolster the numbers of those behind the scenes who can provide a certain skill set
Butterworth said: “A while ago we put a post out looking for more directors to join the board with no financial commitment but a willingness and a desire to push the club along and keep helping us to progress.
“I was really pleased when Tony contacted me as he is the exact type of person we need.
“Already he’s been hands on putting in the graft and we are really pleased to have him on board.”
Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh caught up with the new director to hear more about him and his role at the club and you can hear their chat below:
