[S]tudents and staff at Central Academy have come together to support Operation Christmas Child. A huge total of 187 shoeboxes have been filled with small toys, school supplies and hygiene items which will be shipped from the UK to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease.
A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. That’s what the students and staff at Central Academy believe.
Each year people pack millions of shoe box gifts for Operation Christmas Child reaching 12 million children in 150 countries and territories since 1993.
Today students from Central Academy visited the Carlisle distribution centre to learn more about Operation Christmas Child and find out how the boxes are sorted and shipped to children around the world.
Elizabeth Barnsley, Director of Key Stage 3 said: “I am absolutely overwhelmed with the level of support from students and colleagues. This project has given our students the opportunity to explore the effects of war, poverty, natural disaster and famine. They have risen to the challenge and have contributed to a project helping children around the world.”
