John Stevenson MP

[J]ohn Stevenson MP will be welcoming former Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne to Carlisle on Friday to discuss the Northern Powerhouse.

Visiting in his capacity as Chairman of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, George Osborne will be meeting with business and community leaders on the 24th November to provide an insight into how the Northern Powerhouse strategy is progressing, and how it can work best for Carlisle. The Northern Powerhouse Partnership is an innovative initiative to foster consensus among business and civic leaders across the north on how to best to grow, by implementing the Northern Powerhouse strategy. This is a wide-ranging project with a focus on developing the following industries across the north of England: advanced manufacturing, energy, health innovation and the digital economy.

John said: “I am looking forward to hosting George Osborne in Carlisle. I am keen for this meeting to be an opportunity for those involved at the highest level of the Northern Powerhouse strategy to be reminded of Carlisle’s important place in the northern economy. As a city with an economic catchment of up to 500,000 people, Carlisle has a lot to offer to the Northern Powerhouse strategy to grow the north to its full potential. With a unified vision across the political, business and community spectrum, we can ensure Carlisle is a major player in the realisation of the Northern Powerhouse.”
