[W]orkington Comets have announced the signing of 28 year-old Dane, Nicolai Klindt for the 2018 season.

Poole-asset Klindt comes into the side on a 7.51 average based on the 5.78 figure he achieved last season with Poole before a knee injury forced him out of the Pirates side in mid-July.

But now, having recovered from his injury he is fit and ready to return to the track and club owner Laura Morgan is delighted to be able to add his name to the Comets team sheet.

“Nicolai is a rider that I have known for some time and one that I have always rated quite highly, so to have him in our side for next season is very pleasing indeed” said Morgan.

“He has a wealth of experience achieved at the very highest level both in the UK and across Europe and while his previous outings at Championship level with Scunthorpe and Sheffield were relatively short-term appointments we feel that over a full season with us he will prove to be a very solid performer and one that can certainly raise his starting average.

“Nicolai is very stylish and a real racer; and once he gets dialed into Derwent Park we feel that he will provide plenty of excitement for the supporters and hopefully score plenty of points for the Comets.”

Klindt was born in Outrup, Denmark, and is a former Danish under-19 champion (2006) and two-time Danish under-21 champion (2006 & 2008) while he was also the European under-19 champion in 2007.

He first came to the UK in 2008 where he joined Wolverhampton and rode for the Wolves for three seasons. Subsequent years have also seen him represent Swindon, King’s Lynn and Leicester at the top level before joining Poole last season.

Having started the season in great form for the Pirates he picked up a knee injury though bravely raced on but, with the injury then restricting his scores, he was forced to admit defeat in mid-July and allow it time to heal.

Nicolai Klindt (7.51) now joins Dan Bewley (5.80) in the Comets line-up for 2018 with the third team member set to be announced tomorrow evening at 8:00pm.
