[A] local man has been arrested after a serious assault in Whitehaven last night (30th December).
Police were called at 11:42pm to a report of an assault on Lowther Street, Whitehaven.
A 39-year-old man from Whitehaven sustained serious, non-life threatening, head injuries.
A 26-year-old local man who tried to intervene was also assaulted and sustained minor injuries.
A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and ABH, and is currently in police custody.
Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time.
