Adamas Voces – Choral Concert – “From Lent to Easter”

[M]y passion for music started as a young boy chorister at the age of seven when I was often heard singing the descants incredibly loudly in the final hymn at church.

I subsequently joined several choirs in Cumbria, including the Whitehaven Choral Society and Carlisle Cathedral Youth Choir.

After my voice had developed, I had my first organ lesson and  quickly developed an interest in the instrument and also in choral directing.

I was given my first job as Organist at the age of 12 at St Peters, Kells, and held this position until I was 19, when I moved to St Peters, Fleetwood, Blackpool, to become Director of Music.

It was in Blackpool where I formed Adamas Voces: An ‘ad hoc’ based choir which would follow me wherever I went.

It’s members being friends of mine or local professional singers would be invited to concerts to make up a full choir to sing concerts for charities or to sing choral services at cathedrals. In 2015 I was appointed Director of Music at Darwen Parish Church, which boasted a choral tradition of a high standard in Lancashire.

Later that year I was awarded a Choral Scholarship at St Davids Cathedral in Pembrokeshire  and subsequently continued to sing there on a daily basis as a Vicar Choral.

Since then I wanted to return to Whitehaven to present a concert to help raise funds for a charity. The charity I decided to donate the profits to is The Whitehaven Music Festival, an organisation in which I was involved during my time in the Whitehaven School Choir.

It will be a pleasure to return to St John’s, Hensingham, where I practiced the organ and performed there with my school choir at Christmas time.

For most members in Adamas Voces it will be their first visit and they are just as excited as I am to return to Cumbria. We don’t want anyone to miss out on this stunning music, so we hope to see you there!

St. John’s Church, Hensingham, Whitehaven.

Friday 13th April, 2018 – Doors open at 6:30pm for 7:00pm start.

Concert tickets will cost £8, payable at the door, with refreshments served afterwards.
