[S]taff and students at Energy Coast UTC were delighted to welcome a visit by Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Claire Hensman
Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Claire Hensman said: “I was delighted, with my husband, to be invited by Mrs Cherry Tingle, the Principal of the Energy Coast UTC, to visit and meet some of the teachers and students on Wednesday.
“We were very impressed.
“The facilities are outstanding, in large part because of excellent collaboration with neighbouring institutions allowing for shared use; it was clear that the UTC students benefitted hugely from being exposed to and part of the Gen2 sophisticated environment and labs.
“It was a real pleasure to talk with the students in their classrooms and at lunchtime seeing how well motivated they were, and mature. The supportive pastoral care, raising aspirations, means that everyone in the UTC has a chance to realise their potential: just what they need on a personal level but also so welcome to local employers who are looking for skilled, work-ready recruits.
“We were greatly encouraged to hear of the involvement in and sponsorship by some employers, who of course will be able to have a great source of talented employees.
“The UTC has come a long way in a short time and is now a really exciting place to be. We will be watching progress with interest!”
