L-R: Cadet Company Sergeant Major Hine appointed Deputy Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for Cumbria, by Mrs Claire Hensman, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Cumbria and Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major Kieran Steel being promoted by Col Anthony Steven

[M]embers of Cumbria Army Cadet Force’s Maryport detachment have earned prestigious awards and promotions last month, including Deputy Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet and Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major, rewarding them for their hard work and dedication during a host of important events in Cumbria.

The promotions for Maryport detachment came during the Cumbria Army Cadets regimental weekend at Carlisle Castle on the 13th May, when Anthony Steven, Commandant of The Cumbria Army Cadet Force promoted Cadet Staff Sergeant Josh Hine to Cadet Company Sergeant Major and Cadet Sergeant Major Kieran Steel to Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major.

“It is an important marker in our detachments history, there has not been a Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major from Maryport in over 15 years and it is an amazing achievement” said Company Sergeant Major Instructor Hine who runs Maryport detachment. He continued to say “I am also proud of Cadet Company Sergeant Major Hine who is my son, as he has worked hard for this promotion, it also means there are two Company Sergeant Major Hines for the first time ever.”

The detachments success continued further when Cadet Company Sergeant Major Hine was appointed Deputy Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for Cumbria, by Mrs Claire Hensman, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Cumbria during a ceremony which saw 11 awards presented to Cadets and Adult Volunteers from around Cumbria at Carlisle Cathedral.

The appointment of Deputy Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet is one of the highest honours a cadet can achieve and considered the pinnacle of a cadets career which rewards the hard work they have put in since joining the Army Cadet Force. The role will involve assisting the Lord-Lieutenant as required – often on parade for Royal visits – and act as ambassadors for their organisations and the young people of Cumbria.

The cadets will both take part in a busy calendar of events throughout the year, showing young people in their area what can be achieved with dedication and hard work.
