[A] MAN could receive a prison sentence for texting his former partner just two days after he was banned from contacting her.
Paul Elwin Haigh, 49, received a restraining order during a magistrates’ court hearing on May 16. This prohibited him from having contact with his ex-partner, Kellie Simpson.
But at Carlisle Crown Court, Haigh admitted breaching that order on both May 18 and 19. In each case he is said to have made contact with Ms Simpson by text message.
Recorder Julie Clemitson adjourned the case for specialist background reports to be prepared on Haigh, of Holden Road, Salterbeck, Workington. He was granted bail, and told he is due to be sentenced at the crown court on August 16.
“It is essential that you do not commit any further offences in the meantime or breach the terms of the order in any other way,” Recorder Clemitson said to Haigh.
She added: “There is a risk of custody here – a significant risk of custody.”
