Residents and businesses are being advised of changes to Allerdale Borough Council services due to the bank holiday on Monday, May 25.

Bin collections

Residents across Allerdale will see some changes to their bin collections for the week commencing May 25.

With effect from Monday (May 25), bins will be collected one day later throughout the week. For example, those due collections on Monday will receive them on Tuesday and those bins normally collected on Friday (May 29) will be collected on the Saturday (May 30) instead. Collections will be back to normal from the following week, commencing Monday June 1, 2020.

Residents are reminded that garden waste collections are now back in operation and are following the original schedule, however, only one bin per property will be collected. To check when a collection is due go to https://www.allerdale.gov.uk/en/bincollections/.

Customer services

The council’s customer services team will be contactable through 0303 123 1702 and the web chat function on www.allerdale.gov.uk until 4.30pm on Friday (May 22). The customer service department will then be closed until 8.45am on Tuesday 26 May.

All customer contact centres/area offices remain closed for face-to-face queries and appointments.

Customers can still report issues, such as fly-tipping, missed bin collections and dog mess, through the council’s ‘Report It’ section on the website and the myAllerdale mobile app (available on Apple and Android devices).

Those wanting to apply for the Government’s business support grants will still be able to over the weekend through https://www.allerdale.gov.uk/en/coronavirus/coronavirus-business-grants-claims/. This page also has links to information on other financial support schemes available to businesses.

Emergency support

If you need to contact the council out of hours, in an emergency, for homelessness support, please call 0303 123 1702. If you feel you may be at risk of becoming homeless please contact the council’s Housing Options team on 01900 702660 (during office hours) as soon as possible.

There is also an emergency support service for people at high risk of becoming seriously ill, as a result of COVID-19, and who do not have support available from friends, family or neighbours. The emergency telephone support line, operated by Cumbria County Council, is 0800 783 1966. Or you can email your request for help to: [email protected]. This service is being operated between 10am and 2pm on bank holidays and weekends.
