Police are appealing for information following a fire that left Silloth residents without internet connectivity.

The fire occurred around 12am midnight on Friday 5th June 2020, when someone set fire to a wiring cabinet near the town’s telephone exchange on Station Road.

The incident caused significant disruption to the town’s telephone and internet; engineers are currently working to restore full services.

Detective Constable Dave Matthews from Workington Police Station said: “Cumbria Police recognises the disruption caused by this incident.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation and urge anyone with information to contact police at the earliest opportunity. I am particularly keen on hearing from anyone using a dash-cam in the area of Station Road on the night in question.”

Anyone with information should telephone 101, email [email protected] or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote log 33 of 5th June 2020.
