A man has been arrested in connection with an aggravated burglary which occurred in Appleby yesterday evening (27 June).
Police were contacted at 7.15pm with a report of a man had entered a house on Scattergate Close holding an air pistol. The victims of this incident were not injured and an air pistol was located nearby and has been seized by officers.
A 46-year-old man, from Appleby, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and possession of controlled Class B drug. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Sergeant Sarah Kay, North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team, said: “We would like to reassure local residents that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of last night’s incident in Appleby.
“We can confirm a man is currently being questioned by officers in connection with the incident.
“Incidents such as this are rare and we would like to reassure people there is no perceived risk to any member of the public.”
