A popular qualification seen as a fast-track into a project management career has been launched at Furness College.

Applications have now opened for the industry-rated Project Management Foundation Degree course starting in September.

The course, in association with the University of Cumbria, is studied on the Channelside campus part-time in the evening with classes twice a week.

Head of Area Simon Irving said: “We are delighted to have received the go-ahead for this foundation degree, which is open to anyone who has completed A Levels, BTECs or any other Level 3 qualifications and wants to go onto a career in project management.

“So whether you are looking for a career change, step up the career ladder or are just finishing your college studies and preparing for the world of work – and have an interest in project management – then we’d love to hear from you.

“The course is flexible so people can fit it around their current job or for college leavers who want to take up employment but continue progressing their education.”

More than 500 students study higher education at Furness College each year with the qualifications accredited by partners including University of Cumbria, Lancaster University and UCLan.

The foundation degree has been designed around established bodies of knowledge from the Association for Project Management and the Project Management Institute to equip students with the relevant tools and techniques needed to become a successful project manager.

Simon said: “Skills in project management will be in more demand than ever in Furness in the next decade. We know there is a need for higher level skills in this sector across Cumbria and this qualification will not only help to bridge that gap but those who complete it can progress to a full BSc (Hons) in Project Management.”

The news comes this week as staff and students are celebrating the success of its degree-level students. More than 200 students have been awarded their grades for higher education programmes studied at the Channelside campus.
